Waste reduction and recycling Environclean CG recycling targets 2012-2017: Collect at least 600 tonnes of redundant equipment for potential re-use Divert at least 1000 tonnes materials from landfill by: redistributing redundant equipment for re-use, recycling bottle and paper Help 40 organisations save money by buying low cost equipment Help 4 neighbourhoods with 10,000 residents each to improve their recycling performance Create 20 jobs in deprived inner city areas. Achievements as of 2012: In Kenya: 1. Create recycling centers in low-income neighbourhoods: Delivering less-resource kerbside recycling schemes in low-income areas for glass, plastics, paper, tins, boards, textiles, organic waste In future, establish a network of recycling schemes that will result in an MRF (Material Recycling Facility) in Eastland's area of Nairobi 2. Develop creativity in children of slums: Provide, assist or support the provision of quality creative play and environmental facilities for children and young people resident in Eastland’s, to promote the development of such children and young persons, in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. All playground equipment will be locally sources and constructed to ensure that benefits reach the local communities. 3. Promote sports in slums: Collect unwanted sports equipment such as bikes, boxing gloves etc. that will be made available to those who need to use them In UK: 4. Prevent useful resources from landfill: Provide the means to recycle surplus items from businesses in UK into education, giving the resources a new lease of life and assisting schools by supplementing the school budget. Usual types of resources available are: Office equipment -desks, chairs, cabinets, computers etc. Paper products - paper, cardboard, packaging, stationery, display materials, catalogues, brochures, folders, etc. Fabrics - roll ends of material, threads etc. Food operation equipment - plastic containers, cups, plates, utensils, etc. Electrical components, mechanical components, etc. Plants, gardening materials, tools, etc. Building materials, tools, paints, models, etc.
